The District

Parks By Day, CityWalk Dark

Everyone's first Universal memory usually involves screaming: big drops, bigger stories, movie sets swallowing you whole. Locals know it is two trips in one: parks by day, CityWalk by dark, a chocolate factory standing guard over both.

01 · Park

Universal Epic Universe

Five Worlds Behind Portals

Orlando's first major new theme park in 25 years, showing in every square foot: Celestial Park's gardens, Ministry of Magic streets, Super Nintendo World's playable chaos, Isle of Berk's dragons, Dark Universe's monsters. A full day barely scratches it.

02 · Chocolatier

The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen

Chocolate In Every Course

Walk in and the factory swallows you: brass, gears, towering chocolate-colored smokestacks, one wild idea, chocolate belongs in every course. Warm Chocolate Almond Bread with salted caramel first, then the Marshmallow Crisp milkshake, unapologetic and impossible to finish with dignity.

Voodoo Doughnut

Rope Drop To Pink Box

Run it locally: rope drop at Islands of Adventure, Hagrid's first while the line is a rumor, Epic's portals slow in the afternoon. Evening back at CityWalk: chocolate factory dinner, dueling pianos, a pink Voodoo box for the ride home.

Flashback · Orlando History

The Opening-Day Disaster

Universal Studios Florida opened on June 7, 1990, before it was actually ready. Headline rides broke down constantly, and Universal ended up suing the manufacturer of the Jaws ride. The park survived its shaky start, and nine years later Islands of Adventure opened next door, turning one troubled park into a real resort.

The Wizard Who Changed Everything

In 2010, part of Islands of Adventure became Hogsmeade, the first Wizarding World of Harry Potter, opening June 18 to enormous crowds. It was such a hit that four years later Universal tore out the Jaws ride and replaced it with Diagon Alley, complete with a Hogwarts Express train connecting the two parks. The boy wizard turned Universal from Disney's scrappy rival into a destination in its own right.
