Death in the Afternoon is a dark, intimate Mills 50 room built around absinthe, named for the Hemingway cocktail of absinthe and sparkling wine. Bartenders will build a drink around your vibe instead of a menu, and regulars swear by the Sauterelle, which drinks like mint chocolate chip ice cream with swagger, plus a Spanish-leaning kitchen turning out patatas bravas, corn ribs, a chorizo burger and short rib gnocchi. The tiny room fills quickly and feels like a quiet, understated speakeasy, made for good conversation.
